About UCPBA Saskatoon

Our History

The UCPBA was originally formed in the 1970's. The association was very active and encompassing of Saskatoon's entire Ukrainian community, with a membership in the hundreds. We were a major contributor to the community, providing cultural and social life to many. UCPBA was best known for the Vesna Festival, which still continues today as a separate organization. In the late 80's and early 90's, the association entered a period of decline and ceased to operate for a few years, until its revival in 1997.

Once again we became an active force within the Ukrainian community and others in Saskatoon and area. Over the years the association has had the priviledge to host formal dinners and luncheons for such dignitaries as the late Right Honourable Ramon John Hnatyshyn, the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Dr. Lorne Babuik, and the Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada, amongst many others. We have also originated Saskatoon's King of the Kovbasa contest that has become a great evening and fundraiser for the city. the first Thursday of every month is dedicated to networking over a wonderful lunch as we gather to talk about what we do and who we are. We are always seeking new members. If you are interested in the Ukrainian culture, business, and its community, do not hesitate to contact us.
